Anderson mocks Jadeja’s solemn sword celebration after running out team-mate

In a chaotic passage of play the India No 5 ran out debutant Sarfaraz Khan before making his century

Ravindra Jadeja unfurled the most solemn of sword celebrations a ball after running out his debutant partner, with Jimmy Anderson appearing to mock him for it.
Jadeja produced a sublime hundred on his return to the India XI from injury, helping his team recover from 33 for three to a healthy 326 for 5 at stumps.
But he brought up the milestone in an episode of high farce. Jadeja had contributed just 15 to his stand of 77 with the debutant Sarfaraz Khan, and had seen his scoring rate slow to a crawl as he neared his hundred.
Facing Anderson, he drilled the ball hard to mid-on and set off for a run, only to change his mind. Poor Sarfaraz was too far down the wicket when Mark Wood gathered the ball and threw down the stumps, so was run out by metres. Sarfaraz left the field disappointed, while the India captain Rohit Sharma – who had also made a hundred earlier in the day – could be seen throwing his cap on the floor in disgust.

The following ball, Jadeja turned the ball to fine-leg and jogged the single that completed his hundred. In his home state, he produced his trademark celebration, where he twirls his bat round as if it is a sword, but in extremely sheepish and solemn fashion. The crowd cheered, but not with the same vigour they had for Rohit’s hundred earlier in the day.
Due to the circumstances, Anderson appeared to mimic Jadeja’s celebration and exchange a few words.
Remarkably, Jadeja – one of the fastest runners between the wickets in the game – has now been involved in three run-outs in three innings this series. He had a mix-up with Ashwin in the first innings in Hyderabad, before being brilliantly run out by Stokes in the second. Jadeja has now been involved in 11 Test run-outs, with his partner being dismissed on 10 occasions.
